NASCAR and Nickelodeon

How many DPs get to say they have worked for Spongebob?  On May 9, 2015, the NASCAR Sprint Cup returned to Kansas for the “Spongebob Squarepants 400”, and Video Soup was hired to capture content for Nickelodeon.  Video Soup DP Craig Campbell has worked for NASCAR at Kansas Speedway races each year since the track’s inception in 2001.

Over two days we worked with Nick Sports staff to shoot fun scenes with several NASCAR drivers and their teams, and we also captured all the fun of the race weekend.  “For one weekend at least, my kids considered me  the ‘cool’ dad,” says Campbell.

Video Soup Adds New Sony Camera to Tool Box

Any good builder has the right tool for the right job in his toolbox.  In the video world, that toolbox is full of gear including audio equipment, lights, monitors, tripods, lenses, accessories, and of course cameras.

Video Soup has added the new PXW-FS7 XDCAM to its toolbox.  Sony released this camera late 2014, and it is quickly becoming the talk of the professional video industry. Quoting from Sony marketing, “the FS7 is equipped with a Super 35 Exmor CMOS sensor with approximately 11.6 million total pixels and 8.8 million effective pixels.  The high image readout speed of the image sensor allows the FS7 to support 4K motion-picture shooting and Super Slow Motion.”

In addition to investing in this camera, VS also added the Odyssey 7Q+ external recorder/monitor that records HD and 4K raw and ProRes video files, the new Arri L5 LED light, a large client HD monitor, a few more lenses to enhance the FS7, and some post-production upgrades.

Along with our existing camera packages, VS believes to have the right tools for your next video project.

E! News American Idol shoot

August 25, 2014

American Idol recorded auditions in Kansas City this month, and E! News needed soundbites tout suite. Craig Campbell received the phone call at 9am, and within 2 hours a crew of three were ready to record. Shot in ENG fashion, this E! crew captured candid interviews with American Idol judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. Later we shot another interview with show host Ryan Seacrest as well as b-roll.

By early afternoon our Los Angeles client received content via Vyvx transmission. Video Soup crew included Craig (DP), Jeremy Harrison (audio), and Tim De Paepe (producer). Fun!!

NASCAR and All-in-One Productions hire Video Soup to shoot VNR

On April 8, NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Carl Edwards came to Kansas City to throw the first pitch at a Royals game. NASCAR wanted coverage of his pre-game activities along with an interview, so Video Soup was tapped for the job. DP Craig Campbell and audio tech Ken Paulakovich captured Edward’s moments during batting practice. Following the interview, we edited content for a short VNR and uploaded the footage to NASCAR for the edit.

Here’s the link to the video clip posted on NASCAR.com:

April Fools Day 2014

No fooling, the first six months have passed since Video Soup moved into its new world headquarters in Shawnee, KS. Wow how time has flown. We entertained many customers and vendors who attended our open house in November, and we continued to produce content for our incredible clientele.

2013 ended strong, and the first quarter of 2014 has been delightful. Video Soup has lent its talents to many video projects already this year including product promotional & training videos, media training, surgical procedures, company profile & employee news, a VNR, and employee training.

Please watch our latest demo posted on our Portfolio page. And as the year progresses, we’ll update that page with new content that is meant for public display.

October 4, 2013
In February and March of 2013, Video Soup was hired to shoot an episode of “House Hunters” for HGTV. The episode aired October 4 at 9pm CST.
Crew consisted of Craig Campbell as DP and Jon Davis performing audio duties. We shot with Mickey Larson’s Panasonic HDX-900 and used all support gear from Video Soup and an HMI rented from Lights On Kansas City.

“We shot for 6 days over the course of two weeks, and we endured the difficulty of location shooting during that late winter blizzard that dumped over a foot of snow in Kansas City,” Craig says. “Amazingly, I heard compliments at our watch party saying how the snow made our city look beautiful.”

A producer from Los Angeles-based Pie Town Productions completed the 3-person crew. Much energy went into the appearance of multiple cameras although we only had one. “Kudos to the women featured in the episode, Stacie and Elaine,” says Craig. “As non-actors, they did a great job with continuity as we created each sequence”.

Eventually this episode will be available on-line, but here’s a link announcing the episode. http://www.hgtv.com/house-hunters/divorcee-starts-over-in-kansas-city/index.html

October 1st, 2013

Video Soup moved into its new world headquarters 🙂 in downtown Shawnee, KS. Since the company’s inception in 2007, owner Craig Campbell shared space with its DVD duplication vendor Magtek.
“I’m grateful to Magtek owner Dan Williard and his staff for allowing me the opportunity to grow my business along side theirs,” Craig says. “With my new office, I now have the space to better accommodate my clients and vendors.”

Video Soup occupies 1,100 sq ft with a lobby, conference room, break room, and three workspaces. For the first time in company history, each edit suite now has its own room.

Craig will host an open house later this fall.
